I’m currently working as a Clinical Programmer in the Pharmaceutical/Biotech industry. I’m working for a company called PRA International. PRA is what is known in the industry as a Contract Research Organization (CRO). CROs provide research services to Pharmaceutical/Biotech companies, providing a wide range of services, from study design and patient recruitment to FDA submissions and even tracking the safety and efficacy of drugs/biologics currently on the market.

My current role as a Clinical Programmer (also, sometimes called a Statistical Programmer) primarily involves helping Pharmaceutical/Biotech companies prepare data for FDA submissions, while ensuring that submissions/requests adhere to FDA regulations. Lately, most of my days have involved programming using SAS for creating datasets, tabulations, analyses, and figures for FDA submissions. I also spend time mentoring and overseeing the work of other Clinical Programmers.

In previous years, I have also worked as a Statistical (primarily SAS) Programmer in the telecommunications industry (e.g., using SAS for marketing analytics’ projects), and also in the auto/homeowners insurance industry (primarily using SAS while working with Actuaries).
